Virtual Learning and Traditional Learning Environments - 1375 Words
Virtual Learning Environment and Traditional Learning Environment (Essay Sample) Content: Virtual Learning Environment and Traditional Learning EnvironmentStudent's NameInstitutionIntroductionThe advancement of technological revolution, truly reminiscent in the modern-day advanced personal computers and laptops, coupled with exponential expansion of internet throughout the world has expedited many humanistic process. Learning is possibly one of the, if not the, most important of them all. The emergence of Virtual Learning Environment (VLE, henceforth), a paragon of technological innovation, has enabled and continues to enable millions of students to have access to the state of the art facilities for learning and/or acquiring knowledge. Many educational institutions have accepted this form of education as one of the productive ways through which any student can acquire a degree or diploma. Recognizing its productive capacities many institutes have started to procure through its VLE programs. Basically, VLE can aptly be categorized as learning anywhere and a nytime.Ã Over the years, technology has enabled millions of researchers and teachers to garner knowledge irrespective of any subject by evolving a plethora of applicable apex application and software's (Posey, 2010). In the light of this development, there is now an increasing recognition to make the learning as formal and realistic as possible by incorporating features symbolic of any classroom. However, VLE has also received more than a fair share of criticism in that it is not the right approach or way for learning especially at the novice stage. The debate still reigns if VLE has the ability and the capacity to replace Traditional Learning Environment (TLE, henceforth) altogether. Having said that, randomly choosing one over other will be crass. Hence, it is essential to be aware of the costs of benefits of TLE vis--vis VLE and then come to a sound judgement. An assessment of the pros and cons may will also help the subject to conclusively decide one over the other based on o ne's tastes, budget and other factors (Arslan and Kaysi 2013).Advantages and Disadvantages of VLE vis--vis TLE A Critical ExplorationThe popularity of online learning emanates from a number of important consideration which add greatly to the convenience of learner. Any prospective interaction in a VLE is not enforced mandatorily and is text-based and there is no need of any adherence to a fixed time to learn. The recorded lectures are like any standard college lecture and the student can avail it irrespective of geographic location. The student has the freedom to take break from the lecture and can come back refreshed at his/her discretion. It provides flexibility in learning which is not possible in a traditional learning setting of a college or school. All of these components combined make for a great learning process. Or does it? It is a million dollar question and one on which a budding multi-million dollar education industry is contingent upon. Let me emphasize, at the outset, that there are no clear-cut definitive answers to this question. It depends on range of factors to which there is no objectivity and relies heavily on socio-economic situations of the individual. Having said that, there is a clear bifurcation in the manner in which both VLE and TLS imparts and conceives education and its pedagogy. There are a number of definitive explicit and other consideration that can help us probe in deciphering as to if VLE or TLE is better (Kumar, 2010).There are a number of vital limitation in a VLE form of education which, if considered at face value, can impede education's quality. It is devoid of any form of student-teacher interaction which is as essential prerequisite of student's growth and a development as a learner. Also, there is no possibility of peer interaction which is, without doubt, the most influential factor for learning any (challenging) concept. There is also a possibility that the real message of any lesson not being delivered properly or , for that matter, being understood inadequately by the subject. In fact, there are added costs and risks if the students fails to catch the real and intended meaning of a lecture. These repercussions and detriments, essentially, of VLE are not implicit or hidden at all and can deter serious students from engaging in it. On the other hand, a classroom with numerous students of varying intelligence level sitting together and being taught by a capable professor is typically what traditional learning environment is. This traditional setting allows for uninhibited flow and exchange of ideas, views, and understanding among each other and from students to teachers as well. Professors persistently encourage students to raise their queries, doubts and confusion which is then resolved immediately. With their being no communication barrier, the process of learning becomes more of a dialogue and not a monologue, as is the case of VLE form of education (Kokemuller, 2016). This empowering enviro nment for learning will greatly facilitate any incompetent student or students lacking proper clear-cut understanding and knowledge to acquire conceptual understanding by participating actively and with interest in the classroom. Also, proper schedule of classes in a TLE form of education also instills a sense of discipline and seriousness into the student's psyche. Regular class tests, quizzes, seminars and conference keeps them updated of their current level of understanding of the subject and gives them unambiguous insights on their weakness. Given these points, it will encourage dedicated students committed to learning to gain immensely by undergoing a suitable training and to take up doctoral studies. However, one can argue that this structured approach to learning provides lack of flexibility and discretion to the student and can also become burdensome which might take away or denigrate the eagerness to learn any subject. This is to say that the students in the VLE have to mot ivated and self-driven so as to learn the concepts and timely submit the assignments. This, of course, helps students whose intelligence level are above normal (Arkorful and Abaidoo, 2014).Moreover, there are a number of potential precarious social dimension to the issue of VLE education that cannot be ignored. A VLE education also carries with it the risk that it may be duped. There are innumerable examples of such cases in the media lately. A society which sees education as a business or one which can be exploited to garner profit will only degrade the quality of social institutions in the long-run. Needless to say, negligence on the part of the authorities to recognize will inevitably have unfavorable and damaging consequences to the social fabric society. Hence, any prospective student should do a proper research of the accreditation of the university or the school offering degree/s online before committing to it officially. The again, there are some specific subjects which cann ot be taught online and it requires personal full-time participation and dedication on the part of the students. The most prominent example is that of a medical degree. Other subjects such as law, marketing, strategy also cannot be studied in isolation. Proper understanding of intricacies comes only by engaging with professors. Further, it is very important to ascertain the quality of the program that is being offered. Spending heavily for an insignificant degree for which there is no value in the market can beset an individual's career. The prospect of online platform providing education at the primary or secondary level has been criticized heavily. This basis of such criticism is that younger students can be more effectively and efficiently trained within the confines of school and/or classroom than by learning sitting at home. The formative years o...

Workplace Bullying And Its Effects On Professional Status,...
Workplace Bullying David Kryger Bus 600 Management James Zeigler April 23, 2015 Abstract Workplace bullying is type of pervasive practice that an employee experiences from individuals who seeks out supremacy. Bullying can involve verbal, nonverbal, physical abuse and humiliation. This abuse can affect businesses with inefficient way of working that is both costly and preventable (Wiedmar, 2011, p. 35). There are many types of workplace bullying: threats to professional status, personal standing, isolation, overwork and destabilization (Baack, 2012). Some conflict can be face-to-face confrontations in which is the most visible and needs to be handle swiftly. Another form of conflict can involve different types of messaging or social network. I will discuss both the impact on the employee and organizations thatââ¬â¢s involved with workplace bullying. I will then discuss a time that I was involved in a situation in which I was a victim of workplace bullying. There are steps that need to be taking when workplace bullying is occurring. At the end leadership and e nvironment must create formula for stopping workplace bullying (Wiedmer, 2011, p. 35). I always thought of bullying occurring in school and community. Some people had school and neighborhood bully who wanted their lunch money or to do their homework. Growing up I was never a victim of bullying. Mock Trial free essay sample
They would never have been able to accomplish this without the help of the amazing coaches and the dedication of the students. The members of that team graduated last year and the younger kids have to step up and take their place. The team only has three coaches and around thirty members this year, three times more members than the team had three years ago. Only seven of these members have been in mock trial in previous years. Every year the Minnesota State Bar Association comes up with a case for the mock trial competitions. Every year the teams have to learn a completely new case, with different arguments. Every year the coaches have to teach students what took them two to four years to learn in law school. With only three coaches, how are they ever going to be able to teach thirty students the concepts of mock trial? The team needs two separate teams, one high school and one middle school team and more coaches. We will write a custom essay sample on Mock Trial or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Jim Dunn is the assistant County Attorney and somehow finds time in his busy work schedule to coach. The second coach, Allison Krehbiel, is the Nicollet County Judge and allows the team to use her court room and other rooms in the court house for practice. Mr. Warren, the third coach keeps the team running by taking care of the scheduling and dealing with the school. All of the coaches have families to get home to and practices already go until six. Adding more time to practices would take away time from their families and take away much needed homework time from the students. Time is money, the more you spend the less you have. By adding more coaches each member will get the one on one time needed and practices will run more efficiently. The members that have been in mock trial previous years, know more than people who are just joining. Since the team doesnââ¬â¢t have enough coaches, old members are forced to learn at the same pace as new members. The older members are at a more competitive level and need to be able to extend their knowledge past the basics that the younger members are at. To become good at mock trial, one needs the knowledge and wisdom of Athena. This takes time and dedication. By getting the time the older members need with the coaches, they can become a better team. A member of a team that makes it to state has to be in ninth grade or older to compete. By splitting the team up into a middle and a high school team this rule would never be a problem. The middle and high school teams would be able to learn at a pace, most comfortable for them. Last year, the middle school members never got to actually compete. The new members competed at scrimmages early in the year and never felt prepared for the trials. They felt embarrassed, discouraged, and intimidated by not being ready for these trials. Starting the year off like that made them not want to try hard during practices and led to goofing off in the court house. Using the court house is a privilege and not a right. If the team is kicked out of the court house they will have to find a new area to practice and nothing can compare to the courtrooms that they are able to use. Mock Trial without a courtroom is like an opening without an argument, pointless. Every member needs to be respectful of the space and try to leave it better than how they found it. The coachââ¬â¢s time, the studentsââ¬â¢ talent, and the schoolââ¬â¢s treasure, will help this yearââ¬â¢s team. By having two separate teams and hiring more coaches the Saint Peter Mock Trial Team can have another successful year. Thank you for your time.

Mr. Mongoose and Mrs. Hen free essay sample
James Berry, was born in Jamaica in, 1925, but moved to England, in 1948, he has helped create a new kind of poetry that draws on Caribbean idioms and experiences. His work is admired for its understanding towards West Indian and British cultures, and its original use of language. The story in hand talks about a hen who has just given birth to its newly born six little chicks, although we might think the story is happy at first, it spirals down to a depressing story when a mongoose comes and eats her six little chicks. When given advice by a ground-dove to go and present her case to court, she noticed that the whole court was full of mongooses, and so her case was dismissed due to the lack of evidence. Going home in a saddening defeat, she was stopped by four mongooses, one of which was her judge that day. The story ends with the hen being eaten by the four mongooses, ending her misery after living what no mother would think of enduring, which is the loss of her own babies to the hands of a criminal. We will write a custom essay sample on Mr. Mongoose and Mrs. Hen or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I think that the moral of the story is that not all happy beginnings end in happy endings; there is always a chance that something might go wrong, and in this case the hen lost all of her childrens lives and hers because of a mongoose. he story reflects on racial discrimination around the world, because if we consider the mongooses as a majority population, such as white people, and the hen and the ground-dove both as minorities, for example black people and Arabs, and this started off since the discovery of America, when black people would be sought for slavery, and now where Arabs are thought to being terrorists because of 9/11, then the story could reflect as an act of racial discrimination where the white people dominate the minorities by executing them, or the mongooses could have been following the concept of since theyre of the same race then they should stick by each other. It could also reflect on sexism, since the hen and the ground-dove were both females and the mongooses were all males, then it would show how male dominance is achieved by lowering the perspective of what women are in societys of back in the early 1900s and earlier than that, where women were usually always home, never to actually leave their houses and serve their husbands until death. The characters of the story are: Mrs. Hen: Main character of the story, she is very naive and unintelligent because of her mistake of taking out her children after realizing that a predator was killing them for six times until the last one died. She also isnââ¬â¢t very witty because she went to the court without any evidence showing us that she is actually very unintelligent because of her lack of knowledge that she needs actual evidence to convict someone of a crime that he or she has committed. Mr. Mongoose: Another main character of the story, he is a very cunning, fast and intelligent predato r, he swiftly killed the family of Mrs. Hen counting on her dim-witted mind of making that fatal mistake and also counting on the court which contained nothing but mongooses. Mrs. Ground-dove: Secondary character that shared the same fate as Mrs. Hen, her family had been killed by Mr. Mongoose, and she tries her best to avoid him so she doesnââ¬â¢t get eaten by him and experience the same fate as Mrs. Hen. In my opinion, this story shows us many things of the modern world, such as racial discrimination, sexism, etc. and the story itself has a very vast, deeper and more significant meaning because of the use of Allegory in it. Although some people might not agree, the story is not a simple childrens story, a simple yet meaningful story about recent times. By, Mohamed Madkour

5 Assorted Usage Errors
5 Assorted Usage Errors 5 Assorted Usage Errors 5 Assorted Usage Errors By Mark Nichol Using the right word for the job, or considering whether a word is needed at all, distinguishes careful writing from careless writing. Discussion and revision of the following sentences illustrate various ways in which writing can be improved by word-by-word attention to detail. 1. Hereââ¬â¢s a list of several webinars that we have hosted that we think you may be interested in. The conjunction that is often optional in a sentence, but when it appears twice in a sentence, omit at least one expendable instance: ââ¬Å"Hereââ¬â¢s a list of several webinars we have hosted that we think you may be interested inâ⬠(or ââ¬Å"Hereââ¬â¢s a list of several webinars we have hosted we think you may be interested inâ⬠). 2. Smith snapped back in a rare display of emotion during an otherwise unflappable matter-a-fact testimony. Venerable idiomatic phrases a writer may have heard spoken but not seen written out may be misheard or misremembered and subsequently erroneously recorded, so always double-check the exact wording of such phrases: ââ¬Å"Smith snapped back in a rare display of emotion during an otherwise unflappable matter-of-fact testimony.â⬠3. Jonesââ¬â¢s teammates stressed how little he stresses in the postseason. Stress is often used as a synonym for emphasize, but it is better to employ it only to refer to physical or mental pressure, and emphasize is especially preferable if, distractingly, both senses of stress are used in the same sentence: ââ¬Å"Jonesââ¬â¢s teammates emphasized how little he stresses in the postseason.â⬠4. Heââ¬â¢ll make his first scheduled public remarks at the state convention, where he is expected to address his future plans. Plans are, at least in the context of this sentence, something pertaining to the future, so future is redundant here: ââ¬Å"Heââ¬â¢ll make his first scheduled public remarks at the state convention, where he is expected to address his plans.â⬠Always scan your writing to delete such extraneous wording. (See this DailyWritingTips.com post and this one for more examples.) 5. Depressed labor markets incent people to monetize their possessions, time, and talents in whatever ways they can. This sentence is a matter of aesthetic consideration rather than error, but avoid using neologisms when perfectly adequate (and often superior) antecedents exist: ââ¬Å"Depressed labor markets incentivize [or ââ¬Å"motivateâ⬠] people to monetize their possessions, time, and talents in whatever ways they can.â⬠Want to improve your English in five minutes a day?
